Icon: Jesus Light of the World
Today is the 5th Golden Night of Advent in the Latin Church; where we focus more closely on the coming of our Lord. During Vespers, the O antiphons are said. Each day for 7 days, we invoke Christ using his Old Testament titles. Today during Vespers we will call him by “O Dawn” or in Latin “O Oriens” That’s said along with the magnificat.
The O antiphon said today is:
O dawn of the east, brightness of light eternal, and sun of justice: come, and enlighten those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death.
In Latin:
O Oriens, splendor lucis aeternae, et sol iustitiae: veni, et illumina sedentes in tenebris et umbra mortis.
Old Testament reading
But unto you, who fear my name, the Sun of justice will arise, and health will be in his wings. And you will go forth and leap like the calves of the herd.
