Judge orders Fusion GPS to give deposition on anti-Trump dossier, Christopher Steele

In the case of Gubarev Et Al v Buzzfeed Et Al., Miami Judge Ursula Ungaro issued a 16-page ruling (further down in post) last week ordering Fusion GPS to give a full deposition and to turn over communications it had with former MI-6 spy, Christopher Steele, pertaining to the salacious anti-Trump dossier authored by Steele.

Plaintiff, Aleksej Gubarev, is suing both Steele and Buzzfeed in the United States and the UK for defamation of his companies, Webzilla and XBT Holdings. Steele in the final memo of the anti-Trump dossier published by Buzzfeed on January 10, 2017 accused Gubarev of hacking DNC servers on behalf of Russian intel.

Fusion GPS hoped to avoid being questioned by Gubarev’s attorneys. However, all efforts by the opposition research firm hired to dig up dirt on now President Donald J. Trump by Hillary Clinton’s campaign and the DNC* failed. Judge Ungaro rejected all arguments; Fusion GPS has until August 31, 2018 to sit for a deposition.

According to an email from Evan Fray-Witzer, Gubarev’s attorney, to Fox News, “After a year of doing everything they could think of to avoid being deposed, Fusion GPS will finally have to answer our questions…We knew that they had made a mistake when they asked for the case to be sent down to Florida. Judge Ungaro is very engaged in this case and she saw through Fusion’s objections.”

…Steele’s long-delayed, court-ordered deposition was for the ongoing multi-million dollar civil lawsuit on both sides of the Atlantic, filed by Russian tech guru Aleksej Gubarev against Buzzfeed and Steele….

Val Gurvits, one of the U.S. attorneys representing Gubarev, told Fox News that Steele’s deposition was attended by 17 people including “a legal representative from the Crown to make sure no state secrets were disclosed.” Gurvits described Steele as congenial and professional.”

The location of the deposition was kept secret but described as a “private office building.”  At least one of Steele’s U.S. based attorneys participated via teleconference[…]
