On Thursday (7/19/2018), Federal Judge John Keenan of New York’s United States District Court dismissed a climate change lawsuit against Big Oil companies filed in January 2018 by the City’s Communist mayor Bill de Blasio.
The City’s complaint filed against Exxon, Chevron, BP, Royal Dutch Shell, and ConocoPhillips is nothing more than an attempt to extort billions of dollars from the oil companies and activism by way of the judiciary. The city’s claims is that the money is needed to “to shore up infrastructure from rising sea tides and other calamities attributed by city officials to climate change.”
Out of the more than a dozen nuisance cases filed locales across the country, Oakland and San Francisco claims were tossed out as well. All will appeal.
…The judge ruled that the courtroom was not the appropriate venue for the claim. “Climate change is a fact of life, as is not contested by defendants,” Judge Keenanwrote in a 23-page opinion. “But the serious problems caused thereby are not for the judiciary to ameliorate. Global warming and solutions thereto must be addressed by the two other branches of government.”
His comments echoed those of U.S. District Court Judge William Alsup, who threw out last month similar public-nuisance claims filed by San Francisco and Oakland, concluding that the issue was best addressed by the executive and legislative branches as well as the diplomatic community.
“Those dangers are worldwide. Their causes are worldwide. The benefits of fossil fuels are worldwide,” Judge Alsup said in his ruling. “The problem deserves a solution on a more vast scale than can be supplied by a district judge or jury in a public nuisance case”[…]

It is noteworthy that under de Blasio, the same roadways and potholes are repeatedly paved and repaved annually and for month’s at a time yet the City’s infrastructure continues to fall apart. That includes the bridges, New York City’s transit system, the endless construction and Capital Street Projects that have been underway since de Blasio became mayor in 2014.
That is to say nothing of the endless real estate projects fundamentally transforming the New York City skyline as doubled down upon and taken from the playbook of de Blasio one-time nemesis, Michael Bloomberg (but that’s another post). As for the endless infrastructure projects, they are from the playbook of former New York City mayor, David Dinkins.
In fairness to de Blasio, infrastructure projects across the United States have become nothing more than an endless money grab, payoff to Big Labor, favored contractors, corrupt bureaucrats and a bevy of endless projects that bilks taxpayers not only of their hard earned money but their time.
END OF SIDEBAR
Climate change plays no roll in any of the above but it does nothing to stop greedy politicians and the Marxist collective who agenda is to extort and punish Big Oil while pilfering the checking accounts of taxpayers.
