A Tribute to Billy Graham

A Tribute to Billy Graham

“For Billy Graham, let it be said, that he lived his life, to bring the lost and hurting to Christ.”

Since the news broke one day ago that America’s Pastor, the Reverend Billy Graham, had passed, I have revisited in my mind my first recollection of this amazing man.

Now I may be dating myself but I was living with my grandmother when I first heard his name.

Grandma (as I called her) who was cooking something atop the stove had entered the living room, turned on the black and white television and perched herself on the edge of the sofa. The house was quiet and as she made herself comfortable on the sofa, concentrating on the man on television, I asked, who is that man or something to that effect.

I can still see the back of my grandmother as she responded, “Billy Graham.” Even though, I was only 4 years old at the time, I recall Reverend Graham in his gray suit and while I cannot recall one word that he was saying, I remember that moment.

As time went on, I moved in with my parents, remembering the family gatherings around the black and white television set as the adults sat riveted and listening to Billy Graham.

I remember my parents, aunts, uncles and their friends attending Billy Graham Crusades when he visited New York City. Indeed, this man touched all and he will not be forgotten.  Billy Graham’s voice was the voice heard around the world.
