I see little, if anything different about the GOP plan from the Senate bill. Why do we need more than one “immigration principle” to get started? Start with border security. Do it and then come back with Principle No. 2. The long-awaited “Standards for Immigration” as designed by the GOP were released at the Republican Conference yesterday or today. Note that these principles have no legislative language behind them. The principles assert that border security must be achieved. It gives no timeline. What is missing? The acknowledgement that the GOP understands it will take years to make the border safe (but they think you don’t know that), simply because of corrupt government contracting and a complete lack of cooperation from Democrats.
I suggest Congress come to Tulsa, Oklahoma and sign a contract for an effective fence, pretty pronto, and they will get it. There must be hundreds of thousands of fence companies which can give us double or triple fencing with all the curvy-goodness and barbed-wire at the top required for security. For all those places a fence will not work, there are other technologies, and I hope we don’t hear that the government will hire one of the many who have already been there, and done that, and nothing worked, yet they were paid billions.[…]
