The Seat of Satan

The Seat of Satan

I have a story to tell that is as old as time and lasts for all eternity. Finding the words for such a story is most difficult and, as you may imagine, will take require more than what can be told in one article to tell it. So, I hope you will stick with me as I tell it a story which spans the ages.

And to the angel of the church in Pergamos; These things which hath the sharp sword with two edges; I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where Satan’s seat is: and thou holdest fast my name, and has not denied my faith, even in those days wherein Antipas was my faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwelleth. (Rev. 2:12-13)

When the Greek phrase “where Satan’s seat is,” is literally translated it means, “where there is a throne to Satan. This “throne” or “seat” has been identified by scholars as the Great Altar of Zeus which was once located in Pergamos.

The Altar has a 113 metre (371 feet) long sculptural frieze depicting the gigantomachy, or struggle of the gods and the giants. In Greek mythology, the Gigantes were a race of giants, children of Ge (the primordial Earth mother), who was fertilized by the blood of Ouranos that resulted from his castration by Cronus. (

This entire edifice was moved to Germany in the 1880s, the altar was rebuilt, and then the Germans built an entire museum, the Peragum Museum, around it. Originally, the Seat of Satan was not built as a temple but rather as an open air alter. It was this museum where Hitler first came to adore the alter. Eventually, he had an outdoor, open air, version of it built from which he gave many speeches.

Sacrifices to Zeus were made continuously upon this alter during the time of the Apostles.  When it was moved to Germany, Hitler fell in love with it.  It’s history is rich with blood shed and human sacrifice.  So why did Obama choose to replicate it for his 2008 Democratic Candidate acceptance speech?  There is much more to this story, it goes back to the time of Noah.
