A couple months ago while Sarah Palin was saying she wasn’t a candidate she also said that if Republican nomination for president came down to a brokered convention, “all bets are off“. As time goes by there is more and more talk about a brokered convention. According to Allahpundit at Hot Air
Granted, her ratings have always been solid among Republicans. And granted, comparing the favorability of someone who isn’t running to the favorability of two candidates who have been tearing each other’s throats out every day for months is apples and oranges. Even so, Ian Lazaran at Conservatives4Palin makes a fair point: As a Not Romney with appeal to evangelical and non-evangelical conservatives alike, she probably could have given Mitt more of a run for his money than Santorum has.
Palin could probably do more to unite the GOP in any of the candidates still in the race. She has the ability to raise money. Conservative independents like myself would have no problem supporting her.
For the last couple years I have been saying that she’s better off doing what she’s doing. I still believe that to be the case for her personally, but I cannot see that Romney being able to beat Barack Obama. I cannot even see Romney convincing a large percentage of conservatives even vote on election day. When Rick Santorum made the statement about people might as well vote for Obama has Mitt Romney was the wrong thing for Republican candidate to say. It is what a lot of conservatives are saying privately.
Democrats and progressives especially are genuinely scared of her. If she were to so much as drop a hint that she might run, and smile the Democrats would run had spent $10 million in just a couple days bashing her. `She could damn near bankrupt the Democratic party just talking about running, I never actually run.
