This morning along with some news links Cyber Fox sent me a copy of Barack Obama’s address to The Joint Session of Congress on Healthcare September 9, 2009-
Back In 2009 President wanted his name on a big health care bill, what the law would actually do was less important than putting Barack Obama’s name on a law that would’ve that every American citizen. Democratic-controlled House and Senate were all too happy to try and oblige. As we learned somewhere in the process, no one in Congress was reading the bill, are actually trying to figure out what it would do. As long as it was big nobody gave a damn. Then House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told us we would have to pass the law to find out what it did. The law passed even though most Americans hated it. Democrats ignored any and all reasonable questions. They and the president simply replied with canned talking points.
As I went through the transcript it occurred to me that I could spend a day, an entire day pointing out the sleight of hand, accounting gimmicks, errors, omissions, and some out right lies in the president’s speech.
Here is one of the president’s statements;
THE PRESIDENT: It’s not true. And one more misunderstanding I want to clear up — under our plan, no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions, and federal conscience laws will remain in place. (Applause.)
He fluked-up on that. As we now know, abortion and contraception is covered in the bill. Unless the one dollar contribution, or co-pay for Planned Parenthood services, with an additional one dollar contribution or co-pay for Planned Parenthood abortion services.
A new Health and Human Services rule allows for one dollar abortions via state health care exchanges—which will be funded by taxpayers. In a move that the Independent Sentinel describes as an “accounting trick”, the Hyde Amendment, which blocks direct taxpayer funding of abortions, will be bypassed.
The accounting maneuver was ostensibly added by pro-life U.S. Senator Ben Nelson (D-NE) who is now retiring due to, it is believed, his role in the debacle.
As a result, nothing will stand in the way of government administered health plans covering elective abortions.
Within the individual mandate, in the health care law, is an abortion premium mandate that requires anyone enrolled in insurance plans that include elective abortion coverage to pay a separate premium to fund abortion. What this means is that the choice, for pro-life individuals, may lie between a choice of conscience or a plan that may fall short of meeting their health needs.
As we all now know, he figured he could get around the laws of conscience, but simply dictating the churches and other religious organizations with their beliefs would be. The Constitution has never mattered to this president anyway
THE PRESIDENT: Then there’s the problem of rising cost. We spend one and a half times more per person on health care than any other country, but we aren’t any healthier for it. This is one of the reasons that insurance premiums have gone up three times faster than wages.
President Obama’s national health care law will cost $1.76 trillion over a decade, according to a new projection released today by the Congressional Budget Office, rather than the $940 billion forecast when it was signed into law.
Democrats employed many accounting tricks when they were pushing through the national health care legislation, the most egregious of which was to delay full implementation of the law until 2014, so it would appear cheaper under the CBO’s standard ten-year budget window and
TOWARDS THE END OF THE SPEECH THE PRESIDENT SAID And here’s what you need to know. First, I will not sign a plan that adds one dime to our deficits — either now or in the future. (Applause.) I will not sign it if it adds one dime to the deficit, now or in the future, period. And to prove that I’m serious, there will be a provision in this plan that requires us to come forward with more spending cuts if the savings we promised don’t materialize.
Hmm, I wonder if we can start with Queen Michele’s vacation fund.
Of course we all recall that the entire purpose of the exercise was supposed to be the lower costs and make sure that all Americans were insured. A couple weeks into the discussion, cost reduction became cost control within a month or two it morphed into minimizing the amount of cost increases for health insurance.
We were told somewhere between 30 and 50 million people were uninsured and this was going to save them all. The number kept changing depending on who eas trying to make what point. In his Address to Congress the President used the 30,000,000 figure. No one took into account that has cost were added into the program at some point people, and businesses, would decide it was more cost-effective to pay the fine…
THE PRESIDENT Here are the details that every American needs to know about this plan. First, if you are among the hundreds of millions of Americans who already have health insurance through your job, or Medicare, or Medicaid, or the VA, nothing in this plan will require you or your employer to change the coverage or the doctor you have. (Applause.) Let me repeat this: Nothing in our plan requires you to change what you have.
Keith Kolffer over at the White House Dossier dug up a few facts about that
It’s not clear how many of the 4 million would be forced out as a result of employers dropping coverage. But it can be assumed that many will indeed lose their insurance and have to seek it elsewhere, since few people would seem likely to intentionally abandon coverage provided by an employer.
And many employers have already indicated that they would rather drop coverage and incur fees from the government than continue to provide it.
According to a survey published last summer by the Towers Watson consulting firm, almost one in ten medium to large size employers said they are likely or very likely to end health benefits for their workers.
