Can lesbians be charged with a hate crime for beating up a gay man?

Why not? Once we make motive an element of a crime, it goes both ways, and all ways.

So a Jew can be guilty of an anti-Jewish hate crime, a black of an anti-black hate crime, and in this case in Boston, three lesbians of an anti-homosexual hate crime for calling a gay man names while beating him up.

the article brings up a very good question, one I’ve wondered about for a long time. You virtually never see if person is a member of a quote ” hate crimes victim category” charged with a crime. One example would be the flash mobs attacked whites over the country last summer.  They were charged with assault, vandalism and leave murder in one case but since they were attacking whites and they were black it ever occurred to anyone that they might be racially involved. Had it been the other way around, I am reasonably sure that prosecutors would have classified the actions of those  mobs as hate crimes.
