Waste Isolation Pilot Plant WIPP – New Mexico – Radiation leak – Update 2/22/14

For lack of time I have been unable to get my original post done at Hyscience put up here.  My apologies to Grumpy Elder.  See -> New Mexico nuclear disposal plant – WIPP – “airborne radiation” alarm..

Bottom line – On Valentines day, an alarm was triggered at a nuclear disposal facility outside of Carlsbad, New Mexico.  The facility, WIPP – WASTE ISOLATION POWER PLANT – went into shut-down mode and remains that way.

Below is information current to today, 2-22-14.

Note – in trying to produce links of relevance and the most current information I have broken out several links that might be included in other posts/sites that are used below.

MAX ALERT! DOE is Funding FREE Whole Body NUKE Scans For People Living Within 100 Miles of the Airborne Plutonium DisasterNew Mexico is America’s newest “Bikini Atoll” of nuclear research; cause you can’t just let a good nuclear disaster go to waste. Just tell the natives its all safe; then offer them free “Health” research and track them over the years. More here.

Radcast
has a very thorough round-up of current information from 2/21 and 2/22. They have included several historical links for background information. Updates on WIPP include these two:

This is what should be read! – Here
And then there’s this…not sure what to think about this one! – Here

The rest is here.

Energy News2-21Radioactive waste containers may be “smashed and opened” after roof collapse at leaking U.S. nuclear site — Official: We believe there’s been a breach… “It’s a very serious thing” — ‘Seismic event’ mentioned — High levels of alpha and beta radiation detected. More here.

Energy News2-20 – Plutonium release at U.S. nuclear facility: “We don’t know what happened… don’t know whether it could happen again” — “Big problem is…how much is continuing to be released?” — Officials “know very little about extent of problem or how to solve it” More here.

The Los Angeles Times seems to have lost interest as their last article was on 2-18. I am including it here regardless. Energy Department probes radioactive leak at New Mexico nuclear dump – Read here.

There was a fire at the WIPP facility a week before the radiation leak. Officials are trying not to link the two for whatever reason but this video gives visual of the underground facility.

There is absolutely nothing, zilch, nada where one might expect information to be, at the – New Mexico Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management homepage – it’s WIPP page – it’s Emergency page or the Newsroom page. I linked the home page just in case they ever decide to post anything for the people of their state.

Other links useful or possibly of interest for novices such as myself -

From RadcastBasic terminology about radiation.

From POTRBlogDOD 3150.08-M “NUCLEAR WEAPON ACCIDENT RESPONSE PROCEDURES” (NARP)

That’s it for this date. I’m sorry I have to say – stay tuned for more – but this story is not over by a long shot.

Just a woman for whom the bell of God and country tolls. Pissed off and willing to strap on boots (RED) to KSA!
