Pope Benedict XVI To Resign On Feb. 28 Due To Health Concerns

Pope Benedict is resigning.

I don’t know how many people know about the St. Malachy prophecies concerning the popes but the next one is suppose to be the last one according to his prophecies.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prophecy_of_the_Popes
The Prophecy of the Popes, attributed to Saint Malachy, is a list of 112 short phrases in Latin. They purport to describe each of the Roman Catholic popes (along with a few anti-popes), beginning with Pope Celestine II (elected in 1143) and concluding with the successor of current pope Benedict XVI, a pope described in the prophecy as “Peter the Roman”, whose pontificate will end in the destruction of the city of Rome

I put my faith in the Bible and hold its text as supreme.  That said, it is interesting that these prophecies have been fulfilled 100% of the time so far.
One tidbit if you are not familiar with them – they probably weren’t written by St. Malachy and they weren’t made available until sometime in the 1500′s.

The Vatican says Pope Benedict XVI will resign on Feb. 28, The Associated Press reported. The 85-year-old pope announced the decision on Monday, and cited health concerns as the reason for his departure.

VATICAN CITY (AP) — Pope Benedict XVI announced Monday that he would resign on Feb. 28 because he was simply too infirm to carry on — the first pontiff to do so in nearly 600 years. The decision sets the stage for a conclave to elect a new pope before the end of March.

The 85-year-old pope announced his decision in Latin during a meeting of Vatican cardinals on Monday morning.

He emphasized that carrying out the duties of being pope — the leader of more than a billion Roman Catholics worldwide — requires “both strength of mind and body.”
